We know you're craving a wonderful work out experience, so to quench your fun-loving thirst here it is: our next HOOP YOGA session! We are so very excited to meet up for another workshop integrating yoga (led by our own talented and certified instructor Nicole) and hoop dance. Our first class had such a great turn out and can't wait to share this great work out experience with more of you!
If you were able to attend class last time, it would be amazing to see you again. It's going to feel great to have that hoop around your body again - you may be surprised by how easy you get it this time! For those who are new to the list or weren't able to make the last class, we would LOVE to see you! and don't you worry about being behind on your hooping - We use larger, weighted hoops which make it much easier to catch on (and provide better exercise too!)... in fact, we haven't yet met someone that we couldn't teach to hoop, so trust us, you can do it! Just about everyone in the class are inexperienced or beginner hoopers, so you'll be in good company!
Where: Sounddance Studio - 281 N. 7th Street between Havemeyer & Meeker (BQE), Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Trains-- take L train to Bedford or Lorimer, or G train to Metropolitan/ Lorimer and it's just a couple of blocks away
When: Thursday, 12/17 9:00-10:15PM
How much: Free! Though donations are greatly appreciated!!! Since it's our second class and we're still working with each other and with you to make this the best class EVER, we aren't charging... But if you can afford it, please give a donation (whatever you can afford to give us... $5? $10? :) the donation is to help us cover the cost of the rental space and to supply the hula hoops for the class.
What to bring/wear: Comfortable work out clothes that you can move around it and your beautiful self - we'll provide the rest! We have the hula hoops, mats and yoga accessories needed for class
Why: ....Because it's awesome and it'll make you feel great!!! as we noted in the last email - 1 hour of hooping burns the same amount of calories as running on the treadmill for the same amount of time at an 8 minute mile pace!!! If you're feeling a little pokey after Thanksgiving or want to get a head start on holiday cookie calories, it's a fantastic and fun way to work your body and tone your core and arms specifically.
Hope to see you on Thursday the 17th! Please let us know if you think you can join us(Friends welcome too! Just let us know a head count) If you aren't able to make it and want to be removed from our list as to not be contacted in the future, let us know... no hard feelings :) Please feel free to email if you have any questions. Can't wait to see you all!
hug n kisses and happy hooping,
Becca, Mary Beth and Nicole
We love you Gloria, you're such an amazing inspiration :)
THANK YOU to all of you for coming to our first hoop yoga class last night!!! We had so much fun with all of you (and were really impressed by your hooping skills!! :), and we really hope you had fun too!
As we mentioned, this is definitely a work in progress class, so please email us if you have any feedback that would be helpful for next time. We're working to integrate the 2 practices of yoga and hoopdance together, and plan to integrate new poses and hoopdance skills into every class. We'd love for you all to continue this fun, exploratory journey with us!! We welcome your feedback and ideas-- everything from the class location, class length, ideal class times/ days of the week, to good hooping music for class and new hoop yoga poses!!!
We'll be in touch soon about when and where our next class will be. Please let us know if you have any friends who you'd like us to add to our email list. We want to make sure everyone has the chance to try out hoop yoga! Depending on the size of the space we rent, we may have to limit the sizes of the classes, but if the demand is there, we'll do whatever we can to find times/ spaces to accomodate, so please let us know if you have friends who are interested in joining!
Also, Becca and Mary Beth will be placing an order soon to get more supplies to make new hoops, so please let us know if you're interested in your own custom-made hoop with your favorite colors in your perfect size and weight!!! Hooping at home (sure, you'll probably have to push aside a couple of pieces of furniture, but you can most likely hoop in your apartment!!) is one of the best ways to improve your hooping skills and work your core, all while listening to your favorite album or watching your favorite TV show! The more you hoop, the better you'll be... and the better you are, the more you'll want to hoop!!! It's seriously addictive ;-P
Thanks again for joining us and contributing to the fun environment of the class! We can't wait to do it again!
As some of you know (and many of you don't :), my newest obsession (addiction?!?) has been hula hooping... sounds silly, but trust me, its an amazing work out, stress reliever, and overall fun thing to do! (Even our first lady is into hooping!) And since I love it so much, I want to share the joy with friends... I've collaborated with two of my favorite people to create an amazing new workout class... and I'm asking you a favor to come and be our guiney pigs and please help us try it out!
I, along with my sister, Rebecca Asmussen and our favorite yoga instructor, Nicole Benisch ( + my soul sister ;), both also avid hoopers, developed a class we call *Hoop Yoga*. The class will involve a combination of traditional yoga, yoga that uses the hoop as a tool, and hoop conditioning exercise ,and hoop dance -- sounds like a lot of craziness right? Well, they say opposites attract, and we think its a really superfun combo! But we'd like you to tell us what you think, as you've all had very diverse work out / dance / fun-loving experiences :)
Q: "What if I was never able to hula hoop as a kid!? I'm not coordinated... I'm going to look silly with a hula hoop!" A: Girls, I couldn't hoop as a kid at all, but I can now! We use larger, weighted hoops which make it much easier to catch on to hooping, and provide better exercise too... in fact, we haven't yet met someone that we couldn't teach to hoop, so trust us, you can do it, dont worry! I think just about everyone we're inviting to try the class are inexperienced or beginner hoopers., so you'll be in good company! AND (my favorite part!)-- 1 hour of hooping burns the same amount of calories as running on the treadmill for the same amount of time at an 8 minute mile pace!!! (PS, trust me, no matter how uncoordinated you feel, you're going to LOVE hooping for exercise to burn those same calories you would running!!! AND I've been doing a crazy boot camp for 6 months but I think hooping has been the best ab/core workout I've ever experienced!)
Q: "Where and when is the class?"A: Sunday, 11/15/09 @ 8 pm Sounddance Studio - (281 N. 7th Street between Havemeyer & Meeker (BQE), Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Trains-- take train to Bedford or Lorimer, or G train to Metropolitan/ Lorimer)(**Manhattanites-- I know, you don't want to come to brooklyn, BUT-- we want to get studio space in Manhattan-- we're working on it, but for this trial class, please please come 1 stop on the L into Brooklyn for this class! Its so easy to get there!)
Q: "Do I need to own a hula hoop to come to the class?"A: Nope! We'll have the hoops and the mats, just bring yourself!
Q: "How much does it cost??"A: FREE! Though donations are appreciated!!!. Since we're soliciting your help to try it out, the class is FREE... But if you can afford it, please give a donation ($5, or whatever you can afford to give us... $3? $10? :) the donation is to help us cover the cost of the rental space and to supply the hula hoops for the class. PS--Becca and I hand-make the hula hoops! you'll have an opportunity to get your own as well if you fall in love with hooping!!!)
